XRANGE offers extensive range areas and support services to conduct trials on multiple types of aerial-deployed weapons, including UAVs, short-range missiles, electronic warfare systems, and fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
Two large live-fire ranges totalling 80km2 are available for weapons release, as well as electronic warfare activities, as well as a total of twelve individual 2km2 UAS flight test zones. The airspace is permanently cleared to 8,000ft, with the ability to extend up to 40,000ftand a 100km overflight extension area projecting into the Arabian Gulf.
Air trials are supported by a suite of facilities such as hangars and other ground services, alongside transportable instrumentation such as flight following radar, electro-optical trackers, flight termination and other telemetry systems.
TRIAL TYPES
- BLOS communication & data links
- Live-fire weapons release

UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES
Perform comprehensive assessments and examinations of all aspects of UAV platform and system performance including UAVs, fixed- and rotary-wing, and loitering munitions – across multiple functions and situations, including flight testing, direct and indirect fire testing, offensive and defensive electronic warfare performance, and ISTAR and C4I testing.
SHORT-RANGE MISSILES
Conduct air-to-ground and ground-to-air missile testing, with the opportunity for multiple firing points and impact areas.
DIRECTED ENERGY
Next-generation weapons require exhaustive testing in multiple scenarios. XRANGE provides a safe and controlled environment with multiple firing points for precision test firing and calibration.
HELICOPTER GUNFIRE
Assess your helicopter-mounted weapons on a range designed to collect the data you require. The range is ideal for testing rotary-wing missiles and guns, as well as testing and training forces on crew-served weapons and door gunnery.
D1 LIVE FIRE RANGE AREA
- Approx. 40km2 UAV overflight extension areas
- Static and dynamic explosive trials
- Air-to-ground; ground-to-air firings
- Ship-to-shore firings
- Static and dynamic Target Provision
D2 ELECTRONIC WARFARE & TRAINING AREA
- Approx. 35km2
- UAV overflight extension area (from Weapons Drop Zone)
- Air-to-ground; ground-to-air firings
- Amphibious assault shoreline
- Naval gunfire support range (NGS)
XRANGE facilitates all types of ground-based platforms and systems testing and training. Extensive facilities include various tracks, climatic facilities, fixed shooting ranges and fixed and moving targets.
Support facilities include munition storage bunkers and 40’ airconditioned ISO container offices, alongside transportable instrumentation, such as velocity measurement, high-speed cameras, and other telemetry systems.
Fixed- and vehicle-mounted firing (5.56mm to 12.7mm)
Perform fixed and ground vehicle-mounted testing on static and moving targets across diverse firing areas with maximum-range testing capabilities. Suitable for weapons from 5.56mm to 12.7mm, XRANGE vehicle testing can monitor and assess criteria such as muzzle velocity, survivability and target effect through high-speed digital photography, target photography and vehicle instrumentation.
LARGE-CALIBRE GUNFIRE: DIRECT-FIRE ROLE
Our diverse testing areas and high airspace clearance are ideal for direct-fire testing and evaluation of large-calibre weapons. Assess characteristics using high-speed digital photography, muzzle velocity radar, tracking radar, flash x-ray, and blast and pressure equipment.
SHORT-RANGE INDIRECT FIRE MUNITIONS
Test and evaluate short-range indirect-fire munitions such as mortars and grenades, with telemetry equipment such as high-speed digital photography, muzzle velocity radar, tracking radar, and blast and pressure equipment.
SHORT-RANGE MISSILES
Assessing short-range missile performance at XRANGE is enhanced by our portable, high-definition monitoring technologies such as high-speed video cameras, tracking radar, surveillance radar, and electro-optical trackers.
NAVIGATION, TARGETING, COMMUNICATION
Evaluate navigation, targeting and communication features and functionality under diverse conditions and situations. Navigation points, vehicle instrumentation and clear landscapes enable navigation testing with high precision, while targeting can be assessed using navigation points, static and moving targets, video cameras, and other telemetry systems. Test communication capabilities in our known RF environment and ‘clean’ areas using systems such as video cameras and platform instrumentation
STATIC TRIALS ZONE FEATURES
- Approximately 20km2
- Static explosive testing
- ARENA set-up
- Fragmentation analysis
- Synchronised phantom high-speed cameras
- Velocity measurement systems
- Witness screens
- Platform instrumentation
- Two munitions storage bunkers
Conduct effective maritime weapons, platforms and systems testing across 50km2 offshore and nearshore testing zone that features a secure, shallow- and deep-water littoral environment patrolled by the UAE Coast Guard. Infrastructure includes launching and landing points, and shoreline support facilities, including fixed and movable jetties.
SURFACE PLATFORM PERFORMANCE
Our fully controlled environment and deployable instrumentation facilitates test and evaluation in all types of offshore and near-shore settings for a wide range of surface vessels – from high-speed combat vessels to offshore patrol vessels.
